Chen Haibo, a young senior engineer at a design company under Juhua Group, consistently combines work with learning and applies what he learns in practice. By seamlessly integrating 3D software with process piping design, he has become a master of 3D modeling. Representing the group, he won second prize in the 2022 Zhejiang Provincial Petrochemical Plant 3D Modeling Design Skills Competition and was awarded the title of “Zhejiang Golden Blue-Collar Professional.”

With 12 years of experience in design, Chen Haibo has consistently embodied the “craftsman spirit” through his dedication and expertise. In 2011, as the company’s engineering construction business accelerated, it selected a group of young professionals to form an elite team, tasked with mastering 3D design software and applying it to newly launched projects. Newly hired at the time, Chen Haibo joined this pioneering team, diligently studying and deeply honing his skills in 3D modeling software while drawing on his practical experience to explore ways to optimize and boost efficiency. “During that period,” he recalls, “I meticulously pored over every piece of instructional material, sought guidance from the 3D administrators as I worked, and kept refining my approach on the job—laying a solid foundation for the steady enhancement of my design capabilities going forward.”

3D modeling is the prevailing trend in the design industry. In his daily work, Chen Haibo constantly seeks ways to accelerate the modeling process, collaborating with key 3D‑technology experts to identify methods for boosting efficiency. “Even shaving a few seconds off the time it takes to model a single pipeline can save half an hour over an eight‑hour workday; over time, such incremental gains add up to a significant improvement in productivity.” Over the years, driven by this spirit of relentless pursuit of excellence, he has successfully completed more than a dozen 3D design projects.

2015 In that year, Chen Haibo was transferred to the carbon black EPC project team and went to the Jining project site to take on project management duties. From blueprint drawings of individual pipelines to the completed factory buildings on site, he began to reassess his own designs from an entirely new perspective. During his time on the EPC project, he maintained meticulous records, documenting every issue that arose in the design, dissecting its underlying causes, and noting the implications for future designs as well as key considerations. Over time, he mastered a thorough understanding of various technical parameters, becoming an outstanding “review‑and‑approval expert” and honing a unique skill: “diagnosing problems by reading blueprints.”

3D The practical component of the modeling and design skills competition required contestants to convert 2D drawings into 3D models while correcting any errors in the original 2D drafts. During the contest, he had already rehearsed this conversion process countless times in his mind. With the keen precision of a detector, he identified and rectified every flaw in the exam drawing, skillfully sidestepping potential pitfalls. In the end, he delivered a flawless 3D piece, securing second place in Zhejiang Province and outshining all competitors on home turf.

Dedicated to his work, he diligently hones his skills and pursues innovation. Over a 12-year career, Chen Haibo has cultivated the habit of thinking critically in everything he does, seamlessly integrating efforts to boost efficiency and enhance design quality into his daily routine. As he often says, an industrial engineer must be able to step up when it matters and remain focused on learning and refining technical expertise. It is precisely this spirit that has earned him numerous honors: in 2020, he was recognized as a high‑level talent in Hangzhou; also in 2020, he received the title of Outstanding Communist Party Member from the Juhua Group; in 2021, he was named a Model Young Skilled Worker at the 11th Juhua Group Youth Skills Competition; in 2022, he was awarded the Second Prize in the Zhejiang Province Survey and Design Industry’s Outstanding Survey and Design Achievement Awards; and in the same year, he took second place in the Zhejiang Province Petrochemical Plant 3D Modeling Design Vocational Skills Competition, earning the “Zhejiang Golden Blue‑Collar” title conferred by the Zhejiang Provincial Federation of Trade Unions.

Achievement stems from accumulated effort, and labor is what brings honor. What qualities should industrial engineers of the new era possess, and how can they realize their own value? Chen Haibo has delivered a high‑quality answer through his concrete actions.
